Retroviral has been named one of PRovoke Media’s 11 Best Agencies in Africa for 2026 — a recognition that places the South African agency among the continent’s leading communications firms.
The announcement forms part of PRovoke Media’s annual global assessment of the world’s top public relations agencies, with this year’s Africa and Middle East lists unveiled ahead of the 2026 EMEA SABRE Awards in London.

Compiled through an extensive editorial review process — including agency presentations, written submissions and independent industry research — the ranking recognises agencies demonstrating exceptional performance across financial growth, creativity, innovation, thought leadership, client retention and workplace culture.
According to PRovoke Media editor Paul Holmes, the list recognises agencies that have demonstrated “sustained excellence” and overall quality, regardless of size or specialisation.
For Retroviral, the inclusion marks another milestone in a year that has seen the agency recognised internationally for culturally resonant, earned-first campaigns that blend creativity, strategic thinking and measurable impact.
The recognition follows Retroviral’s recent success at both the African and EMEA editions of the SABRE Awards, where the agency earned accolades across healthcare, consumer marketing and media relations categories for campaigns including finDR for Profmed and Heritage of Craft for Castle Lager.
“This recognition reflects the kind of work we believe in — work rooted in culture, conversation and impact,” said Pippa Misplon, Managing Director. “To be recognised by PRovoke Media alongside some of the continent’s most respected agencies is both humbling and motivating. African creativity continues to shape global standards, and we’re proud to be part of that story.”
The recognised agencies were evaluated across multiple criteria, including:
- Financial performance and growth
- Client retention and new business success
- Award-winning creativity
- Innovation and new service offerings
- Thought leadership and industry contribution
- People and culture initiatives
PRovoke Media noted that this year’s EMEA agency lists are the most comprehensive yet, reflecting growing interest and rising standards across the region despite challenging market conditions.
