Douwe Egberts is a global premium coffee brand, and Joe Public Agency was tasked with creating a unique vending machine for the brand that would award yawns with free coffee.
Our job was to seed the yawn-activated coffee machine video both locally and internationally with no media budget. Once our global seeding commenced, the video exploded on international websites like Design Taxi (300,000 followers), Buzzfeed Partner (11,000 followers), Trend Hunter (226,000 followers), Yahoo News (650,000 followers), Digg (1,4 million followers), Huffington Post (3,1 million followers) and Perez Hilton (6,1 million followers).
In less than a month, the video received more than 450,000 views and thousands of mentions were tracked on Twitter and Facebook. International news source, Mashable (3,9 million followers), also covered the news of the Douwe Egberts vending machine on their personal channel.
Marklives.com rated the campaign as the 3rd best South African ad for 2013, and we received the Gold PRISM award for 2014 in the category Social Media for Public Relations.
